Even in retrospect, I find it difficult to believe I had to be talked into visiting Corn Island. Situated about 43 miles off the Caribbean coast of mainland Nicaragua, these pair of islands (Big Corn Island and Little Corn Island) proved to be unlike any place I have ever experienced.
For the first time I knew the true meaning of paradise. Not the paradise that comes with luxury, pampering, abundance, and other excesses typical of island resorts; these islands, which both had their of hotels and resorts for the everyday tourist, revealed a natural paradise that was just as much authentic as it was beautiful.
These photographs seek to illustrate the purity of place that permeated throughout my experience on Corn Island. Purity blended with salt air, sounds of rolling ocean waves, and the absence of civilization. I now understand the difficultly in summoning, in any media form, the essence of a particular time and place have together transform me. With these photographs I will make an initial attempt to that end. The rest I hope will come with the hearts, imaginations, and curiosities of the viewers.
